FAQ
This page answers the questions players ask when something feels broken, confusing, unfair, or suspiciously like user error.
Abilities
Why can’t I use my new ability?
Most of the time, you learned it in the Patchline but never equipped it in the Execution Deck. Learning and equipping are separate steps.
Why is my ability greyed out?
Usually because you are in the wrong state for it, do not have enough Energy, are stunned, are in Recovery, or that ability is still recharging.
What is the difference between Recovery and Recharge?
Recovery is the delay before you can use any ability again. Recharge is the delay before that specific ability can be used again.
Why does pressing V do nothing?
A vision-related buff must be active first. V only toggles the currently applied vision mode.
Targeting
Why can’t I attack this enemy?
Offensive abilities only work when you are actually in combat and have a valid enemy target.
Why can’t I heal or buff that player?
Usually because they are in a different combat state than you, too far away, or in another zone. Covert Cats does not allow out-of-combat support into active fights.
Why does “All Enemies” still need a target?
Because it still needs one valid enemy as the cast anchor. The effect spreads from there.
What does “Combat Group” mean?
It affects all allied cats in the current battle, but still needs one valid allied target first.
What does “Summon” mean?
Summon abilities do not require a target. They only require that you are in combat.
Inventory and Gear
Why can’t I unequip my bag?
Because the bag still contains items. Bags must be empty before they can be removed.
Why can’t I move this item into another bag?
The destination bag is probably full.
Why don’t items stack?
Because Covert Cats uses a more old-school inventory system where space and bag management matter.
Why is my head gear changing my portrait?
Because head gear affects your portrait, your combat appearance, and your Character Status model.
Why can’t I use this item right now?
Some items are combat-only, some are non-combat only, and some depend on your current state.
Combat
Why can’t I assist this battle?
You may be outside the assist circle, the fight may already be full, or it may already be in loot phase.
Why can’t anyone join after the enemies are dead?
Because the fight has entered loot phase. Once that happens, it is no longer joinable.
Why did I get attacked again so quickly after combat?
You get a short safety buffer after combat, not permanent protection. Nearby patrols and bad positioning still matter.
Why did my summon disappear?
Casting a new summon in the same summon category usually replaces the older one.
Why is the fight so chaotic?
Usually because aggro is drifting, players are missing wind-up messages, or support timing is falling apart.
Travel and Vision
Why did Covert Container Mode fail so quickly?
Its reliability depends partly on your level compared to the area you are traveling through. In higher-level areas, it becomes less dependable on purpose.
Why can’t I see anything in this zone?
You are probably in a dark area that needs Cone of Meowlight or another vision solution.
Why can’t my flashlight reveal that enemy?
Because darkness and hidden enemies are different problems. Meowlight helps with darkness. Class vision modes help detect hidden units.
Why am I still on the transport after logging back in?
Because transport persists. If you camp or go link dead while riding, your character remains associated with the transport route.
Logout and Safety
Why doesn’t closing the game log me out safely?
Because Covert Cats treats logout as part of the world, not a vanish button. Closing the game improperly can leave your character link dead in the world.
Why can’t I log back in immediately after disconnecting?
Because your character is still link dead and has not finished resolving its world state.
How do I log out safely?
Use Camp. Camping begins the proper logout process and is the safest way to leave.
Classes and Stats
Why does my class care about stats that are not its primary trait?
Because Covert Cats is designed so that secondary stats still matter. Primary traits matter most, but off-primary stats can still improve survival, regen, crit behavior, mobility, or utility.
Do I need all four classes in a party?
Not for every easy fight, but harder content is healthiest and most efficient when all four classes are represented.
Why does the Tongue not care about enemy armor as much?
Because the Tongue’s offensive abilities are based on disease, poison, and memetic damage rather than physical damage.
Why are multiple Claws less useful than I expected?
Because enemies use heavy diminishing returns against repeated stun attempts, so stacking Claws does not multiply control value the way you might expect.
Social and Trade
Why did my trade fail or close?
Usually because someone moved, entered combat, went out of range, disconnected, or the trade became invalid.
Why did my accepted trade reset?
Because someone changed the offer. Any change means both players must accept again.
Why didn’t my message show where I expected?
You may have typed in the wrong chat tab, or the current tab may be filtering that message type out.
Why can’t I send party chat?
You are probably not currently in a group.
Why do whispers still show up in Global?
Because private messages appear in both Global and Whispurrs by design.
